Visit Charlestown and see the village and historic, grade 11 listed harbour where scenes from the Poldark series was filmed.Visit the locations , the beaches, the restaurants and the coastal walks and soak up the atmosphere of this lovely old fishing village , complete with its famous Tall Ships. In the Poldark series Charlestown stood in for Cornwall’s city of Truro. Charlestown is only 15 minutes from Vine Cottage.

Cycling near Vine Cottage has never been easier since the new cycle hub opened last year. There are cycle ways for all capabilities through the pathways of Cardinham Woods , safe paths and no traffic, the routes are clearly marked and range from 2 miles on wards. The car park has really good facilities and there is also a fab little cafe, that is open every day throughout the season.Distance from Vine Cottage is only 5 miles or 10 mins by car

Lanhydrock cycle hub opened late last year and is truly fantastic for people wanting to cycle through the country estate. Different trails for different abilities, safe and away from traffic, maps available, as are cycles and helmets. After cycling there is also a cafe and plant centre and other facilities.

There is a cycle way from St Austell down through the countryside and following the White river , that takes you down to Pentewan , with the pretty little harbour, pubs,restaurants and surf shops . Dont forget in Pentewan sands is the swimming pool, gym , bar and beach

Lovely Lanhydrock wider estate is the most beautiful place to walk, you can park at the historic Respryn bridge and walk through the woods by the river Fowey

to the Lanhydrock estate or walk to Lostwithiel via Restormal castle or from the car park you can go through the estate to the Bodmin Parkway train station

and have a welcome break at the little station cafe of coffee and homemade cakes, this walk is about two miles there and back and is on the old Lanhydrock

Lostwithiel

Lostfest starts sat 11/05/13.

Carnival week starts 26th July.

Jefferies Auction rooms every fortnight, along with the Antiques and Collectibles market also held every fortnight in the Community Centre.

Lostwithiel is a lovely town , with antiques and curiosities shops, lovely walks around the town , up to Restormel Castle and down along the river bank towards the wildlife sanctuary.

Fantastic places to eat and relax ,from traditional pubs to the Duchy Nursery, with its cafe/restaurant and plants for sale and knowledgeable staff to answer all your questions. .

Lostwithiel has a great golf course, open to day visitors and members alike.

During December Lostwithiel hosts the Dickensian Evening throughout the town with the shops open late,live music, craft stalls, choirs and the fantastic Town Band, mulled wine and hot food, its a night not to be missed.

All through the time of Advent, the windows of homes and businesses are lit with displays. The windows light up consecutively each evening from the 1st to 24th of December, by Christmas there are 24 different windows to see and enjoy.

Fowey, Polruan and Polperro

Fantastic Fowey with the beautiful river and beaches ,bustling town, shops ,great food and friendly pubs.

offering water sports including kyaking trips up the river, boat hire,passenger ferry to Polruan and the car ferry from Fowey across to Bodinnick.

Polruan has some stunning scenery ,lovely walks and open gardens to visit.

There is the sea ferry to Mevagissey , weather permitting.

The very scenic harbour of Mevagissey is a pleasure to visit, whether looking around the village or walking around the harbour walls.

The sea ferry to Fowey runs all summer, weather permitting.

A warm welcome awaits in the restaurants and pubs, especially in The Ship Inn with its log fire and comfy leather settees.

The shops stock the more unusual gifts , curios and antiques.

Theres always good fishing off the harbour walls or how about chartering The Lizy for wreck, reef ,conger and sharking trips.

Whats happening in Truro

The Victorian Christmas Market is on in Lemon Quay 18th-12 Dec.They put up huge maquees, the stall-holders dress up in costumes, lovely food and drinks to taste and purchase and last minute christmas presents to be bought.
